Academy Awards

I’ve seen:

Juno — Ellen Page played the main character with a ton of energy. I had a blast at this flick. Virtually every supporting role rocked. The soundtrack is also very entertaining.

There Will Be Blood — I’m not going to say that this flick is bad. However, I’m not so sure I understood it. This is the typical flick critics love.

Michael Clayton — I’m going to watch this flick prior to the show.

Other Notes:

I enjoyed Cloverfield. The idea was just original enough to maintain my interest.

Finally:

Lost Rules… This is the best season ever. Every episode could have its own Academy Award Nomination. I’m not kidding…

I have finally seen “No Country For Old Men”. Here is an excerpt of an e-mail I sent to my friend who told me the movie sucked:

“No Country for Old Men” is a masterpiece. You told me it was about “nothing”. It was about “everything”. I can’t wait to view it again. Think about this aspect of the flick! Can you call it a thriller? Can you call it a horror flick? Can you call it a drama? Can you call it a comedy? Can you call it a western?

Well, guy you can call it all of the above. I lost count of my favorite scenes. The acting was superb. The non-ending was meant to spur your brain into overdrive. I’m sorry you hated the ending. I wrote my own ending with my imagination: you know that thing our brains have that sets us apart from animals? Thankfully, men and women with brains make amazing movies like “No Country for Old Men”.

It absolutely deserved the Academy Award but I also feel that Tommy Lee Jones should have been nominated for this flick and won it outright. Josh Brolin was also amazing and should have been nominated. Talk about a career on the rise!!!! The Swedish actress playing Josh’s wife also captivated me. I don’t even have to mention the amazing performance by Javier Bardem. You do understand the purpose of the final car crash don’t you????

So the bottom line is that I really, really hope that you keep telling me your feelings about movies. Those you love, I’ll probably avoid, but those you hate; I’ll wait out all night in line to see…

See ya Friendo :-)

I agree! Lost has been awesome! It is the best thing on television right now!

Now I’ve seen “Michael Clayton”. George Clooney’s performance was far better than that of Daniel Day-Lewis in “There Will be Blood”. Too often the Academy rewards show-boat performances. Clooney’s understated, heart-on-his-sleeve portrayal was so much better! The final confrontation between Clooney and Tilda Swinton is my favorite acting scene of all time. Wilkinson also has an amazing cell phone scene worthy of his Supporting Actor nod. So I’ve seen three of the five flicks up for the Oscar and “Juno” has my pick for the best followed closely by “Clayton”. Doug told me that he was not thrilled with “No Country for Old Men”, and I’m just not in the mood to sit through “Atonement” just yet. I recommend that you avoid the following flicks that are currently on DVD: “We Own the Night”, “Across the Universe” and “Saw IV”.
